Few dive watches offer a better value for money than the Orient M Force, robust timepieces with ISO 6425 certification capable of withstanding depths of up to 200 meters without flinching.

But these are not the only interesting features that these divers can offer. As an upgrade to the brand’s previous dive watches, the legendary Mako and Ray, the M Force offers a higher level of materials and performance.

In this article, we will unveil all the secrets of its modern automatic caliber, as well as the design and operational features that place them among the best Japanese dive watches.

✚ A Brief History of the M Force

It was in the year 1997 when Orient began marketing the M Force series, an abbreviation for “Mechanical Force,” which refers to robust mechanical watches specifically designed for diving.

Since then, numerous variations have emerged, although they all share a set of features that make them stand out among other dive watches from the brand.

These are watches designed for semi-professional diving, with ISO 6425 and ISO 1413 certifications for shock resistance and anti-magnetism. They are equipped with a relatively modern automatic caliber that includes hacking seconds and manual winding.

Perhaps the most distinguishing feature of the Orient M Force is the power reserve indicator, which is present in all models released before 2020, except for the DV01 series.

Currently, some models are being replaced by the newer Orient Triton, although there are still some M Force models available for those looking for more aggressive designs.

✚ Common Features

While different dial configurations, straps, and case shapes can be found, all Orient M Force watches share a set of common features.

➤ The Case

All M Force watches feature a robust case that is larger than many other dive watches, with a diameter ranging from 45 to 50 mm depending on the model.

The most common material for this component is stainless steel, although there is a titanium model: the famous DV01. However, this model does not have a power reserve indicator on its dial.

On the other hand, the case back is screw-down type with various inscriptions for the Orient logo, the model, the materials used, and the supported depth (200 meters in most models).

➤ The Crystal

Another interesting detail in the M Force watches is the anti-reflective sapphire crystal, which is present in all versions. Sapphire crystal is one of the hardest materials, surpassed only by diamond and moissanite. This means that it is difficult to scratch unless you have one of these minerals at hand.

The best part is that Orient offers these watches at a fairly affordable price considering what they offer. It’s unlikely that you’ll find a dive watch with a sapphire crystal at the same price point from other brands.

➤ Certifications

What truly sets the Orient M Force apart as excellent divers are the ISO certifications they hold. Firstly, there is the ISO 6425 for diving watches, and secondly, the ISO 1413 for shock resistance.

The ISO 6425 grants these watches all the necessary features for diving, from highly visible lume in low-light conditions to resistance to magnetism, among other requirements that we already discussed when talking about the SKX009.

The ISO 1413 is particularly useful in an automatic watch, as it uses a shock-absorbing spring in the balance wheel to provide good resistance to shocks and abrupt movements that could affect the caliber’s accuracy.

➤ Power Reserve Indicator

One notable feature of the Orient M Force watches is the highly desired and useful capability for automatic watch enthusiasts: the power reserve indicator.

In fact, when the DV01 was launched in 2013, the only Orient M Force model without this feature, it was a resounding failure precisely because it lacked the indicator, even though it was made of titanium.

In the M Force watches, the power reserve indicator ranges from 0 to 40, corresponding to the 40-hour power reserve that the 40N5A caliber can provide.

A power reserve indicator is highly useful as it allows you to know when to move the watch to keep it functioning normally or how many turns of the crown are needed to fully wind the mechanism.

While the new models introduced since 2020 use the Orient F6727 caliber, which does not include this feature among its functions.

➤ The Bezel

As a proper dive watch, the Orient M Force incorporates a unidirectional rotating bezel with 120 clicks and the necessary markings for measuring minutes, along with luminescent accents on the top portion to enable its use in deep waters.

The bezel is rigid enough to prevent accidental rotation but offers good grip thanks to its textured surface.

➤ The 40N5A Caliber

Internally, the M Force watches represent an evolutionary improvement compared to other dive watches from the brand, as they feature the Orient 40N5A caliber. This movement is not only precise but also includes hacking seconds and manual winding.

Perhaps what makes this caliber so special is the complication that allows it to display the remaining power reserve on the watch’s dial.

It is also a fairly accurate movement, capable of achieving +-15 seconds per day, although owners of this watch claim that the actual deviation is usually reduced to +-5 seconds since Orient tends to fine-tune their mechanisms quite well.

➤ Orient F6727

The newer versions of the M Force watches are more affordable thanks, in part, to the inclusion of the F6727 caliber, which is a simpler movement without the power reserve indicator complication.

However, the rest of the features remain similar since it is still a caliber with 22 jewels, 21,600 bph, and a 40-hour power reserve.

The declared accuracy of this movement by the manufacturer is +25/-15 sec. per day, which is slightly inferior to what the 40N5A movement achieves.

✚ The Best Orient M Force: Beast, Bravo, and Delta

Although there are dozens of different M Force models, the series can be grouped into three main categories based on their basic design features. They are as follows:

➤ Orient M Force Beast

Characterized primarily by having the crown on the left side instead of the right side like most watches.

It is a substantial watch with a 47 mm diameter that features a power reserve indicator at the bottom of the dial and a date window at 3 o’clock.

Its balanced design with circular hour markers and a numbered bezel reminds us of the famous Seiko Sumo.

➤ Orient M Force Bravo

Technical Specifications
CrystalSapphire
MovementAutomatic Orient 40N5A
MaterialsStainless Steel case and strap
Case Diameter45 mm
Case Thickness13.6 mm
Water Resistance200 m

The M Force Bravo stands out with a more daring design, featuring a power reserve indicator at the upper right of the dial and a date window at 4 o’clock, which is less common but equally eye-catching.

The crown, on the other hand, returns to the right side of the case, positioned at the lower right, making wrist movements more comfortable.

It is also the most compact of the three models, with a 45 mm diameter, although still a fairly large watch.

➤ Orient M Force Delta

Technical Specifications
CrystalSapphire
MovementAutomatic Orient 40N5A
MaterialsStainless Steel case and strap
Case Diameter49 mm
Case Thickness13.6 mm
Water Resistance200 m

With a more conservative style, placing the crown and date window at 3 o’clock, and the power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock, the M Force Delta is arguably the most balanced design.

However, it is also the largest model, with a 49 mm diameter, making it a watch that may not be suitable for every wrist. You can appreciate it in action in this video:
