✚ How Does It Work?

The ETA 2836-2 is essentially a variation of the ETA 2824 caliber; the only difference is that the 2836-2 can display the day of the week, not just the date of the month as the 2824 does. ETA 2836-2

As it is the same mechanism, most of its parts are interchangeable, and the specifications are almost identical.

Therefore, it is also an automatic movement with a bidirectional rotor mounted on a ball bearing.

It also includes the Novodiac shock protection system from Incabloc to protect it from shocks and falls, as well as the Etachron regulator for easier and more precise movement adjustment.

The precision and power reserve specifications are the same, and it also features manual winding and hacking seconds.

For more operational details and specifications, you can take a look at the ETA 2824 features.

✚ Brands Currently Using ETA 2836-2

ETA is part of the Swatch Group, a large business conglomerate that owns a significant portion of the most well-known watch brands.

Brands like Omega, Tissot, Hamilton, Rado, Certina, Longines, and Mido, among many others, are part of the group. Therefore, it is very common to find ETA movements in all of them, including the 2836-2.

Here are some of the brands and models that use the mentioned ETA 2836-2:

➤ Tissot Visodate

The Tissot Visodate is a clear example of a Swiss watch with the ETA 2836-2 caliber, which is used without any modifications other than the rotor.

It is also one of the most affordable Swiss watches that can be found with this movement.

✚ ETA 2836-2 vs ETA 2824-2

As shown in this table, both models are identical in specifications except for a difference of only half a millimeter in thickness, which is normal considering that the 2836-2 incorporates an additional complication to display the day of the week.

✚ Time and Date Setting

The adjustments are made very similarly to the ETA 2824, and they only differ in the date where the 2836-2 has an additional adjustment.

  • Time: pull the crown outwards to the outermost position (2 clicks or jumps), the second hand will stop due to the stop-second or hacking function. Then simply rotate it to reach the desired time.
  • Date: pull the crown to the first position (1 click). Then rotate it clockwise to advance the date and counterclockwise to change the day of the week. Do not adjust the date when the hands are between 9 PM and 3 AM to avoid damage to the mechanism.
  • Manual Winding: without pulling out the crown, rotate it clockwise. For watches with a screw-down crown, it is necessary to unscrew it first in the opposite direction before winding.
